Starting Something New at 55: The Heart Behind BookSpines and Thread

I have to be honest.
Starting BookSpines and Thread has been exciting, but it has also been scary.
There is a nervous feeling that comes with beginning something new, especially at 55. Sometimes I catch myself wondering if I waited too long. I wonder if I should have started years ago. I wonder if people will understand what I am trying to build, or if anyone will connect with the pieces I create.
But then I remind myself that starting late does not mean starting too late.
BookSpines and Thread was born from a love of books, creativity, healing, and handmade things. Reading has always given me a place to escape, breathe, dream, and feel like I belong. Creating has given me a way to turn those feelings into something real — something someone else can wear, hold, gift, or connect with.
This journey is not just about shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, or accessories. It is about telling stories. It is about honoring the words that stay with us. It is about making something cozy, thoughtful, and meaningful for people who love books, faith, family, dance, and all the little things that make life feel personal.
At 55, I am learning that courage does not always feel loud. Sometimes courage looks like opening the laptop. Pressing the shirt. Posting the picture. Writing the first blog post. Trying again when something does not come out right. Believing that there is still room for me to grow, create, and begin again.
I am nervous, yes. But I am also hopeful.
I am proud of myself for taking this step, even with shaky hands and a heart full of questions. I am choosing to believe that this season of my life still has new chapters waiting for me.
BookSpines and Thread is one of them.
So, welcome to my little corner of creativity. I hope you find something here that makes you smile, reminds you of a book you love, encourages your heart, or feels like it was made just for you.
Thank you for being here at the beginning.
With love,
BookSpines and Thread
